Blaze swimmers take in their first meet of the season

  • The Clinton Blaze swim team in its first swim meet of the season last week.

The Clinton City Blaze Swim Team competed in its first swim meet of the year.

The team is composed of fourth-, fifth- and sixth-grade students from Clinton City Schools.

There are 29 students on the team, and 21 of them competed in the Orange and Black Swim Meet last week.

Currently, the team is focusing on freestyle and backstroke techniques. Four girls and one boy competed in the 50-yard freestyle (Middle School Class): Amelia Goins (38.23, 1st), Laini Snoderly (41.96, 2nd), Sky Ledford (49.12, 3rd), Brook Peebley (51.62, 4th), and Cayden McGaha (43.39, 5th).

Amelia Goins met the criteria to swim an additional event, and she chose the breaststroke.

She finished second, with a time of 54.10 out of four middle school swimmers.

The rest of the swimmers competed in the 25-yard freestyle event. Carter Joe Phillips (22.99), Kaedynce Oakes (23.65) and Luke Amos (28.17) all won their heats.

The largest difference in time for each heat was 3.5 seconds, so each race was very competitive.

Clinton High School coaches and event staff assisted in helping with this event.

Their support is greatly appreciated by the Blaze Swim Team.
