Two indicted for sex crimes in separate incidents

Two Clinton men were indicted by the Anderson County Grand Jury last week on numerous counts involving sex crimes.

Michael Scott Lightner, 70, Clinton, was indicted on two counts of sexual battery by an authority figure, two counts of incest, and two counts of aggravated rape of a child.

Anderson County Sheriff’s Office Detective Jeff Gilliam led the investigation and presented his findings to the grand jury in the first week of November.

Detective Gilliam, along with the U.S. Marshals Office and other sheriff’s office personnel, executed an arrest warrant Thursday, Nov. 3, at Lightner’s home in Clinton.

Anderson County Sheriff Russell Barker praised the work by Gilliam.

“Anderson County is safer today because of the excellent work by Detective Gilliam,” Barker said. “The bravery and courage of the victim in this case was incredible.”

The victim is a minor child; therefore, personal information will not be released.

Lightner is being held at the Anderson County Detention Facility with no bond allowed.

An unrelated case presented before the grand jury also resulted in the an indictment of another Clinton man on multiple counts of sex crimes.

The grand jury indicted Jerry Allen Lunde, 47, on two counts of sexual battery by an authority figure, two counts of incest and two counts of rape.

These indictments were the result of an investigation completed by Anderson County Sheriff’s Office Detective Sgt. James Crowley, with the assistance of the Department of Children’s Services.

The U.S. Marshals Service, along with member of the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office, served a warrant on Thursday, Nov. 3, at Lunde’s Clinton home.

He was transported to the Anderson County Detention Facility.

Barker also praised the work by Crowley.

“I am extremely proud of the work done by Sgt. Crowley,” the sheriff said. “Anderson County is safer with Lunde behind bars.

“The victim showed amazing bravery and courage throughout the investigation,” Barker said. “We will be with them every step of the way.”

The victim in this case also is a minor child; therefore, personal information will not be released.

Lunde is being held at the Anderson County Detention Facility in lieu of a $250,000 bond.
