After dropping its first two games of the 2022-23 season, the Oak Ridge High School girls basketball team found its way into the win column just before the holiday break early last week.

The Lady Wildcats (1-2) picked up their first win of the new campaign as they defeated South-Doyle, 48-35, at the Smoky Mountain Thanksgiving Classic in Pigeon Forge on Tuesday, Nov. 22.

Oak Ridge darted out to a fast start against the South-Doyle Lady Cherokees as it outscored them 22-3 in the first quarter.

“It was good to get that first win and move on to what’s next,” ORHS Coach Paige Taylor said.

“We started the season and we played two pretty good teams and we had some people out.

“It was good to have everybody back,” he said. “I was also able to play my freshmen (against South-Doyle), and so our scoring was pretty spread out.”

Against the Lady Cherokees, Bella Boone paced the Lady Wildcats’ balanced offensive attack as she scored 10 points. Paige Lawing, Ayana Porter and Jenna Johnson added six points each. Ze’Yana Stewart had five. SeQuari Stewart finished with four. Evelyn Eubanks scored three and Kannon Green had two.

Oak Ridge opened tournament play with a 45-34 loss to Christian Academy of Knoxville on Monday, Nov. 21.
