Clinton High cheerleaders return to competition
For the first time in more than two decades, the Clinton High School cheerleading squad is on the competition circuit.
The team, coached by Tessa Holbrook, posted a Top 15 finish at the recent state championships.
“I thought they did great,” Holbrook said.
“I think they learned a lot, and now they see what happens.
“I’ve been the cheer coach here for seven years and this is new for me,” she said.
The Dragon cheerleaders are looking forward to their next competition this week at the Southeast Regional Championships in Gatlinburg.
The event is slated for Saturday (Dec. 3).
Holbrook said that her team wasn’t exactly pleased with its finish at state, and will look for a better finish this week.
But the coach was happy that the team got to experience the competition.
“I just want them to know how proud I am of them and the way they represented themselves, their school and their community,” Holbrook said.
“I’m proud of them whether they’re competing or if they’re on the sidelines or whether they’re in the community.”
The 2020 Clinton High School cheerleaders are Zoe Baker (captain); Reese Rittenberry (co-captain); Mallory Edenfield; Ashley Lane; Elizabeth Boor; Kendra Holbrook; AnnaKate Hackworth; Shelby Moore; Hayden Scarbrough; Rylee Gann; Olivia Marlow; Ella Hill; Sarah Conaster; Sadie Haney; Addie Haney; Hannah Whitley; Addison Maddox; Hannah Cook; Sydnee Young; Ayana Miller; Laci Clevenger and Gracie Williams.
