Home final was a thrill a minute for Blaze

It was a celebration of all things good Monday night.

The Clinton City Schools’ Blaze hosted its final home game of 2022, and while there was plenty of basketball, there was also time to recognize all Blaze athletes for their participation in the program’s numerous activities.

Blaze swimming, soccer, cross country, dance team, cheerleading, and flag corps were all recognized, as well as sixth-graders who will be heading to the middle school ranks next year.

The boys basketball team also presented Blaze Athletic Director E.T. Stamey with a plaque.

It was a fun and colorful night, with a definite holiday spirit.

The girls lost to St. Joseph, but played an inspired game. Myla Queener led the Lady Blaze with five points. Raelyn Britton notched four points and Tara Beeler scored three. Brooklyn Daugherty added two points on a nifty steal and break-away layup.

The boys beat the St. Joseph Bulldogs, led by Tucker Harmening’s 21 points.

Waylon Brewer had a big night with eight points.

Cal Kirkpatrick, Zander Ford, Corbin Anderson, Jaxon Lowe, and Aiden Ortiz each scored two points.

The Blaze are scheduled to play Episcopal School of Knoxville in Knoxville. The games with the Saints begins at 5 p.m. (girls) and 6 p.m. (boys).

The Blaze will be back at E.T. Stamey Court at Arowood Arena Jan, 15 when they take on the Clinton City School staff in a staff/student matchup.
