Lady Wildcats push win streak to nine games
Nine and counting.
That’s where the winning streak stands for the Oak Ridge High School girls basketball team.
The Lady Wildcats continued their winning ways as they defeated Knoxville Central 65-44 Friday night at Wildcat Arena.
With the victory, ORHS improved to 12-8 overall and remained undefeated (6-0) in District 3-4A play.
The Lady Wildcats also clinched the regular-season sweep against the Lady Bobcats.
Oak Ridge won the first meeting between the two teams, capturing a 72-53 victory in Fountain City on Dec. 9.
In Friday night’s showdown, sophomore Ze’Yana Stewart scored 27 points, and Dimitria Strickland added 19.
The Lady Wildcats opened the week with a 56-40 district win over Campbell County on Tuesday, Jan. 17.
Stewart was Oak Ridge’s top scorer against the Lady Cougars as she posted a 27-point performance. Strickland finished the contest with 12 points and Lindsay Cleveland added nine.
The Lady Wildcats traveled to Powell to play the Lady Panthers Tuesday. Results were not available at press time, but Oak Ridge was again playing for the season sweep after routing Powell 69-35 on Dec. 6.
Oak Ridge hosts West Friday night. Tipoff is slated for 6 p.m. The Lady Wildcats claimed a 73-18 decision over the Lady Rebels in Knoxville on Jan. 10.
