’Cats and Lady ’Cats secure top seeds

The 2022-23 District 3-4A regular season is now complete and both Oak Ridge High School basketball teams have earned the top seed in their respective postseason tournaments.

Both the Wildcats and Lady Wildcats were heavily represented on the all-district basketball teams.

For the Lady Wildcats, Ze’Yana Stewart was named District 3-4A Player of the Year. She was joined on the team by ORHS’s Ayana Porter, Dimitria Strickland and Jenna Johnson.

Karns High School’s Lauren Trent, a former assistant coach to Paige Taylor at Oak Ridge, was named Coach of the Year. Trent guided the Lady Beavers to a second-place league finish in her first season at the helm for the Lady Beavers.

The Lady Wildcats were 10-0 in district play and entered the week at 16-8 overall and in the midst of a 13-game winning streak.

For the Wildcats, Grayson Strader, Ray’Quan Watson, Brennen Scott and Kaden Brightharp received all-district honors.

Oak Ridge went 9-1 in district play and entered the week with a 20-3 overall record.

The District 3-4A boys’ and girls’ tournaments will be held at Powell High School with the girls opening on Feb. 14 and the boys Feb. 15.

By virtue of their regular-season championships, both the Wildcats and Lady Wildcats will advance to the Region 2-4A tournament, which begins Feb. 23.

The top four teams in the district tournament will advance to the regionals.
