Anderson County closed out the 2022-23 swim season at the TISCA championships over the weekend.

The school sent six swimmers to the meet at the Allan Jones Aquatic Center at the University of Tennessee.

Sophomore Avery Coker competed in the 200-yard freestyle where he finished 18th, and in the 100-yard butterfly, coming in 25th.

Landon Rainey finished 63rd in the 200-yard freestyle and posted a 38th-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle.

Coker and Rainey combined with Corey Fine and Jackson Payne to swim in the 200-yard medley relay and the 200-yard freestyle relay.

The team took 46th in the medley and came in 47th in the freestyle.

The Lady Mavericks had two swimmers qualify for state as senior Ila Coker finished 34th in the 100-yard butterfly and completed the 200-yard individual medley in 46th place.

Donovan Rainey finished 37th in the 200 and 43rd in the 100-yard breaststroke.

ACHS Coach Stephanie Coker said she was pleased with her team’s showing on the grand stage.

“Overall, the meet was good,” she said. “The kids were faster than they’ve been in the last several years, and I think the kids had a good experience.

“And even though Avery didn’t do as well as he would’ve liked, he still placed really well.

“It’s really hard when you’re competing against schools like Baylor and McCallie that have kids coming in from all over the world to swim,” Coker said.
