Lady Dragons come up short

Inclement weather forced the Clinton High School softball team to open its 2023 season late.

Rains have also cost the Lady Dragons some practice time on the diamond.

And it showed when CHS finally had the opportunity to play its first game of the campaign Monday night.

The Lady Dragons came up on the short end of a 6-4 decision at Oliver Springs.

Clinton committed five errors leading to five unearned runs for the Lady Bobcats.

“We haven’t had any time on the field and that’s absolutely killed us,” Lady Dragons Coach Leonard Sams said.

“We lost, 6-4, and they had one earned run and that was a home run.

“We had five errors. We scored four runs and those were earned runs,” he said.

Elizabeth Maples had two hits and drove in two runs in three at-bats against Oliver Springs.

Kayla Sherwood was also 2-for-3 and had an RBI in the game for the Lady Dragons.
