Knox West comes back to hand Lady Wildcats district loss

Oak Ridge High School’s softball team lost its lone District 3-4A game of the week last week as it fell to Knoxville’s West High School, 7-3, Thursday night in Oak Ridge.

With the loss, the Lady Wildcats fell to 3-6 overall and 1-3 in the district.

Mackenzie Miller went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI for the Lady Wildcats, who had a 2-1 advantage as they scored single runs in each of the first two innings after the Lady Rebels tied the game 1-1 in the top of the second.

Oak Ridge regained the lead, pulling ahead 2-1 in the second before the Lady Rebels scored twice in the fourth and added two more in the fifth to open a 5-2 advantage.

The Lady Wildcats tallied a run in the fifth to pull to within two at 5-3 in their half of the fifth frame, before West High plated a pair in the top of the seventh to all but put the game away.

Miller pitched six innings of relief for the Lady Wildcats.

She surrendered five runs (two earned), six hits and three walks. She finished the contest with four strikeouts.

Kaylee Hickman started in the circle for Oak Ridge and threw one inning.

She yielded three hits, two unearned runs and three walks. She fanned four Lady Rebels in her brief outing.

At the plate, Hickman was 0-for-4 with a walk and two stolen bases.

Brenna Bradshaw picked up a hit and drove in a run.

Skyler Malenovsky was 1-for-2 with a run and a stolen base.

Morgan Perry went 1-for-4 with a pair of stolen bases.

The Lady Wildcats split a double header at Midway Saturday.

The host Lady Waves won the opener 2-1 before Oak Ridge won the nightcap 9-6.

Oak Ridge dropped a 7-1 decision at Hardin Valley Academy Monday.
