’Cats set to host district tourney in May

It was a week of mixed results on the diamond for the Oak Ridge High School baseball team.

The Wildcats, who played in Loudon County’s I-75 Pile Up Tournament, closed the event with a 4-0 loss to Greenback Saturday night.

The Cherokees’ pitching staff held Oak Ridge (17-8) to a pair of singles in the game.

Mikee Teasley and Richie Ferriera each had singles against Greenback, which scored all four of its runs in the second inning.

On Saturday afternoon, the Wildcats picked up a 9-1 victory over Daniel Boone.

Caden Black had a big game at the plate for ORHS as he went 3-for-4 with two doubles, three runs scored and four RBIs.

Jason Slay, Eddie Tan and Alex Franklin also had two hits each.

The Wildcats dropped a 7-4 decision to Lenoir City Friday despite getting three hits (including two doubles) from Teasley and a pair of extra-base hits (including a double and a home run) from Ferriera.

In the tournament opener at Loudon, the host Redskins defeated Oak Ridge 4-2, holding the Wildcats to a hit, a single by Black, who later stole a base and scored.

Oak Ridge won the District 3-4A regular-season championship with a sweep of longtime rival Karns.

The Wildcats defeated the Beavers 8-1 at home on Monday, April 17.

They won at Karns 10-6 on Tuesday, April 18.

The Wildcats, who went 9-1 in the district, will host the top half of the upcoming district tournament next month.
