SoccerCats finish second in district, region battle against Bearden played Tuesday night
After opening an early lead in Friday night’s District 3-AAA championship match, Oak Ridge High School’s boys soccer team had to settle for a runner-up finish in the league’s postseason tournament.
The Wildcats fell to district regular-season champion West High, 3-1, in the title match at Bill Wilson Field in Knoxville.
ORHS (12-3-2), however, advanced to the Region 2-AAA Tournament, but it faced a tough test Tuesday as the Wildcats were to meet 2022 state runner-up Bearden at Turner-Allender Field in Knoxville.
Results of the knockout game were not available at press time.
Against the Rebels, the Wildcats took a 1-0 lead on a goal by Dennis Flores in the 13th minute of the match.
West (18-1-1), however, picked up the equalizer when William Bush tallied just past the midway point of the opening half.
The Rebels got goals from Wyatt Marlar and Tobias Hageltorn,
Hageltorn, a junior foreign exchange student from Switzerland, broke the Rebels’ single-season goal-scoring record with his insurance tally against the Wildcats.
