SONIC Foundation makes donations to schools

In honor of May’s Teacher Appreciation Month, SONIC Drive-In’s SONIC Foundation donated $1.5 million to match all public contributions made to requests on DonorsChoose, a national nonprofit that allows individuals to donate directly to public school classroom requests submitted by teachers.

The following are among the exceptional teachers who received funding:

• Mrs. Melton at Anderson County Career & Technical Center for the project “Help Our Kids to CriCUT Class!” for grades 9-12.

• Hannah Stiles at Dutch Valley Elementary School for the project “Eliminating the Boundaries of Traditional Seating” for grades PreK-2.

At Claxton, one exceptional teacher received a combined donation of $495:

• Kayla Murphy for the projects “Welcome to our Room Transformations” for grades 3-5, and “Welcome to the Carnival” for grades 3-5.

Terri Lloyd at Oak Ridge High School received a combined donation of $2,017 from SONIC for the project “Refresh — Creating a Calming Space for Students” for grades 9-12.
