River City baseball rolls to 10-2
A successful summer baseball season continued for the River City River Boys last week.
River City, which won four games last week, is 10-2 this summer.
The River Boys swept a doubleheader against the Maryville Knights on the road in a pair of low-scoring games. River City defeated the Knights 2-1 in Thursday night’s opener. River City also claimed the nightcap, 1-0.
In the second game, River City pitcher Jayce Mack tossed a one-hit shutout as he threw a five-inning complete game. He gave up one walk while striking out nine.
He also collected a hit in the contest.
Offensively, Jackson Barrett had two hits and Sam Duggins scored the game’s lone run in the top of the third inning.
In the opener, Sam Raley had two hits, including a solo home run.
Cam Britton also singled and scored. That duo accounted for all of River City’s offense.
Duggins pitched and surrendered one unearned run, three hits and one walk. He gave up one unearned run, three hits and one walk. He struck out six.
The River Boys opened the week on Tuesday, June 13, as they swept a doubleheader against the Graveston Firebirds.
River City won the opener 15-5 and blanked the Firebirds 2-0 in the nightcap.
In the first game of the week, Mack had three hits, including a home run. He drove in four runs and scored two more. Duggins came up with two hits. He had a double, a run and two RBIs.
Garrett Lee had two hits, three RBIs and two runs.
In the nightcap against Graveston, Brent Schaffer threw a three-hit shutout. He struck out seven over five innings.
Britton and Raley each went 1-for-3 with a double. Britton also scored a run. Aden Golden doubled, scored and drove in a run.
