Food Lion Foundation donates to Main Street Baptist Church

Children’s summer feeding program receives $2,500

Main Street Baptist Church has received $2,500 from the Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation to help feed neighbors in their time of need.

Main Street’s Children’s Summer Feeding Program will use the gift to provide children, identified through the local elementary school, wholesome food during the summer months they are out of school.

Volunteers cook and deliver hot meals for all children in their homes on Monday, Wednesday and Friday during the weeks the children are out of school.

The ministry program is staffed by volunteers dedicated to the needs of these children, who are, during the school year, on government subsidized meals.

The food cost of this program is about $12,000 for the summer. Without individual gifts and grants from charitable foundations, Main Street’s Children’s Summer Feeding Program to help hungry children would not be possible.

Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation’s gift will help fund this program for summer 2023.

This is MSBC’s fifth year to be blessed to provide 100 meals per week for the 12 weeks children are out of school for the summer months.

“This summer feeding program allows MSBC to further carry out our mission statement (Acts 1:8 ),” Pastor Wayne Phillips said.

“We are so appreciative of Food Lion for their financial gift. MSBC is the conduit for preparation and delivery of this food, but without the generosity of agencies like Food Lion Charitable Foundation, we would not be able to continue this hunger ministry for local children.”

The Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation is committed to supporting families facing food insecurity across its 10-state footprint.

Established in 2001, the foundation provides financial support for programs and organizations dedicated to feeding local neighbors in the communities it serves.

Since its inception, the foundation has awarded millions of dollars in grants.
