Dress rehearsal for 2023 season showed off quarterback play
Two area high school football teams had their final dress rehearsals in preparation for the 2023 season last week.
Oak Ridge and Clinton had mixed results at the second annual 5 Star Preps Jamboree presented by Tennessee Orthopaedic Clinic at Carson-Newman University’s Burke-Tarr Stadium in Jefferson City.
Oak Ridge outlasted Greeneville 14-13 Thursday night. Sophomore quarterback Blaine Stansberry culminated a comeback victory with the second of two touchdown passes, a 17-yard scoring strike to senior wide receiver Brandon Heyward with 1 minute, 45 seconds remaining in the one-quarter contest.
Heyward, a top area NCAA prospect, finished with four receptions and 35 yards for the Wildcats.
Stansberry was efficient against the Greene Devils as he was 9-for-10 for 143 yards. His first touchdown pass of the night was a 54-yard strike to Almani Rembert.
Irish beat Dragons
Knoxville Catholic notched a 14-6 win over Clinton Thursday in Jefferson City.
CHS senior quarterback Joshuah Keith was effective through the air as he completed 10-of-14 passing attempts for 81 yards.
The Dragons scored their lone touchdown on a 9-yard run by Jawan Goins.
Elijah Bradley wins skills contest
Wildcats defensive lineman Elijah Bradley won the linemen race in the skills competition, which was held midway through the jamboree.
