A local high school golfer achieved the rare feat of making a hole-in-one during a match recently.

Anderson County High School freshman Luke Baldwin aced the sixth hole at the Mavericks’ match against crosstown rival Clinton and Campbell County Thursday, Aug. 17.

“He was so excited,” ACHS Coach Patrick Leverton said. “It was the first time that the Clinton coach, the Campbell County coach or myself have ever seen this during a match.

Baldwin fired a 45 on Deerfield’s front 9.

The Mavericks finished the three-way match in second place as the Cougars won with a team score of 178. Anderson County carded a team score of 181, and the Dragons posted a 209.

The Mavericks are one of the most-improved teams in the area, according to Leverton.

“We’re off to a pretty good start and we’re greatly improved over last year,” he said. “We had a few struggles, but we’re improved and we have to continue to get better.”

Other individual scores for the Mavericks included: Kaden Chadwell (43); Hoyt Chadwell (46) and Peyton Warwick (47).

After a week off, the Mavericks will return to action on Thursday when they will play the Dragons again at Centennial Country Club.
