Oak Ridge runners compete in Saturday’s Fall Classic
Oak Ridge High School’s cross country teams had a handful of athletes compete in the Fall Classic Saturday at Knoxville’s Victor Ashe Park.
It was the 5K debut for Wildcat freshman Nolan Riden.
Riden completed the course in northwest Knox County in 17 minutes, 53 seconds, and came in 38th.
He finished second among the high school freshman athletes in the race, coming in behind Knoxville Catholic rookie Cade Duncanson, who completed the 5,000-meter course by clocking in at 17:27.
“We had a freshman, Nolan Riden, who was running in his first 5K race and he did very well for his first time in a 5K,” Oak Ridge Coach Ed Wright said.
“I had three other boys in the varsity race, and I had two girls in the girls’ race, and they didn’t really do anything earth- shattering.
“We ran in a two-mile time trial at Victor Ashe (last month). I didn’t have those meets on the official schedule, but I told the kids that if they were in town and wanted to run, they could. Our first official meet will be at Norris.”
Anderson County will host a meet at Norris Lake on Saturday. Clinton, Oak Ridge and ACHS will be among 33 teams at the meet.
