Anderson County’s boys cross-country team takes 6th at Sequoyah Invitational

  • Anderson County’s Vance Laster and Cameron Hardy fin- ished Saturdays 2023 Cherokee Classic in the number 18 and 20 spots. Laster ran the 5k course in 17:07.04. Hardy finished with a time of 17:16.54

  • Anderson County’s Ava Moody continues her far-forward finishes in the 2023 cross-country season. Moody fin- ished the 2023 Cherokee Classic at Sequoyah Hills Park in Knoxville in third place and had a time of 18:33.82.

Anderson County’s boys cross-country team posted a sixth-place team finish in the Sequoyah Invitational Saturday.

The Mavericks had seven runners complete the 5,000-meter course in under 20 minutes.

Vance Laster was Anderson County’s top finisher as he posted a time of 17 minutes, 7.04 seconds, crossing the line in 18th place.

Cameron Hardy posted a Top 20 finish as he came in 20th with a time of 17:16.54. John Cutler was the third Maverick athlete to finish inside of 18 minutes as he finished 27th and clocked in at 17:43.01.

Toby Day finished 104th and posted a time of 19:16.80. Ethan Bolton was 106th (19:19.03). Franklin Downs came in 109th (19:21.04), and Darren Anderson was 126th (19:54.04).

In the girls race, Anderson County’s Ava Moody was the overall third-place finisher as she crossed the finish line in 18 minutes, 33.82 seconds. Morgan Lindsay came in 125th (25:17.34) and Emma Johnson was 188th (32:52.12).

The Mavericks and Lady Mavericks will return to action Saturday at the Victor Ashe Park Invitational in Northwest Knoxville.
