River City 12U team brought the thunder to weekend tournament


Clinton’s River City 12U team won the Bring the Thunder for Childhood Cancer on Sun- day, Sept. 24, in a 9-7 win against the Knoxville Warriors.

River City Orange battled out four straight wins to win its first tournament.

In the last game, River City Orange got on the board in the top of the first inning after Heirberto Tirado drew a walk, scoring one run. Peyton Martin also drew a walk, scoring one run, and a Warrior error scored two runs.

The Knoxville Warriors flipped the game, scoring five runs on three hits to take the lead 5-4. Keaton Morris then hit a fielder’s choice, helping River City tie the game at five in the top of the second.

River City Orange took the lead 9-6 in the top of the third thanks to singles by Tirado, Martin, and Morris.

Elijah Barker appeared in relief for River City Orange.

Martin, Mason Mcghee, Morris and Tirado each collected one hit.

Martin led River City Orange with two runs batted in. The Orange went 1-for-1 the first day of tournament play, but won three games on day two to come out on top.
