Johnson has double-double against Central
After a 17-day break, the Oak Ridge High School girls basketball team returned to the hardwood last week and captured a pair of key early-season District 3-4A wins.
The Lady Wildcats kept their perfect record intact with wins over Knox Central on Friday at home. Oak Ridge opened league play with a hard-fought victory at Powell on Tuesday, Dec. 5.
Against the Lady Bobcats at Wildcat Arena on Friday, ORHS prevailed 62-37.
Jenna Johnson had a monster game against Central as she posted a double-double, recording 20 points and 22 rebounds. She also dished out two assists and had a pair of steals.
Jenayah Pippins, a freshman, scored 15 points, pulled down seven boards, had four steals, and came up with three assists.
Dimitria Strickland added 12 points, eight rebounds and three steals.
On Tuesday, Dec. 5, the Lady Wildcats (5-0 overall, 2-0 in the district) came from behind to defeat the Panthers 47-45 at Jeff Hunter Gymnasium.
Oak Ridge trailed throughout the contest before rallying over the final eight minutes.
Euleesha Mitchell posted the Lady Wildcats’ offensive attack as she scored 18 points.
She also grabbed five rebounds and came up with two steals.
Strickland had 12 points, seven assists and three rebounds.
Pippins had 11 points and seven rebounds.
Johnson finished with four points, 20 rebounds and five steals.
The Lady Wildcats played at Cleveland on Tuesday, but results were not available at press time.
Oak Ridge will play Stone Memorial on Friday at 6 p.m. in the Five Star Preps Hoop Jam.
The Lady Wildcats will also host Maryville at 3:15 p.m. on Saturday.
