A productive week ended on a sour note Saturday afternoon for the Anderson County High School boys basketball team.

The Mavericks, who had District 4-AAA victories over Scott and Clinton, had their five-game winning streak snapped with a 74-49 loss to Stone Memorial in the 5Star Preps Hoop Jam at Wildcat Arena in Oak Ridge.”

“We had a good week but if you want to get where we want to go, you have to be competitive with a team like Stone Memorial,” said Anderson County second-year head Coach Jordan Jeffers. “We’re happy with where we’re at right now, but we’re going to need some wins in our tournament this week.

“After our tournament, we won’t play again until January, so we’ll have some days

off and we’ll need

them.”

Against the Panthers, who ended a two-game skid with Saturday’s victory, Brandon Dake scored 17 points for the Mavericks, who opened play in the Hammers Christmas Classic Tuesday morning at ACHS against Carter. (Results were not available at press time.)

Tournament play was to continue through Thursday.

The Mavericks opened league play with a key road victory over the Scott Highlanders in Huntsville on Tuesday, Dec. 12. The Mavs outlasted the Highlanders, 74-65.
