Middle school tourney to be held at Anderson County Dec. 28-30

Norris, Clinton Middle included in boys and girls game lineups

Anderson County High School won’t play basketball during the week after Christmas, but the school will host a middle school basketball tournament Dec. 28-30.

The tournament opens on Thursday with several games.

The boys tournament will have 10 teams and will be contested in a pool play format. Pool A will comprise Norris, Oneida, Knoxville Halls, Jellico and White Oak. Pool B includes Clinton, Powell, Huntsville, Powell Valley and LaFollette.

The eight-team girls tournament includes Knoxville Halls, Powell, Norris, Clinton, Huntsville, LaFollette, Oneida and Oliver Springs.

The tournament opens with three boys games as Norris plays Oneida at 9 a.m.

Knoxville Halls will take on Jellico at 10 a.m., and Oneida tangles with White Oak at 11 a.m.

The girls tournament tips off at noon with Powell taking on the Lady Senators. At 1 p.m., The Red Devils will play White Oak in a boys game.

At 2 p.m., the Oneida girls will take on Oliver Springs. The Lady Hawks will play Huntsville at 3 p.m. The Lady Devils will go up against LaFollette at 4 p.m.

At 5 p.m., the LaFollette boys will play Powell Valley. The Hawks will play Powell at 6 and LaFollette will take on the Huntsville boys.

Tournament play continues on Thursday at 9 a.m. and concludes with the final round on Dec.30.

Thursday’s games include Norris vs. Halls (boys); Oneida vs. Jellico (boys) at 10 a.m. A girls consolation semifinal will be held at 11 a.m.

At noon, Norris and Jellico will play in a boys game.

At 1 p.m., the second girls consolation semifinal will be played.

Then, at 2 p.m., the first girls championship semifinal will be played. At 3, the Hawks will take on Huntsville.

At 4, the second girls championship semifinal will be held.

Powell Valley will play the Hawks at 5 p.m. The Powell boys will take on Huntsville at 6. LaFollette’s boys will play White Oak at 7 and Powell Valley’s boys will play Powell at 8 p.m.

The tournament concludes on Saturday with action beginning at noon. The boys semifinals will be played at noon and 1 p.m. The boys championship game will tip off at 6 p.m.
