Andersonville’s only restaurant – Pizza Plus – will close its doors permanently at the end of business on Dec. 31, store officials said Friday.

“Our building has been sold, and we’re having to leave by the end of the month,” manager Misty Karnuth said.

“The new owners have said they will be opening another restaurant in the same building.”.

She also said that the Blountville-based chain of 56 pizza restaurants does not plan to open another location in the Andersonville area.

“This is the farthest location from the home base, so they’ve decided not to replace it,” store employee Zack McEntee said.

Pizza Plus Inc., the corporate parent, is owned by Daniel Morrison. It operates 48 company-owned stores, and has eight franchisee-owned and operated locations in Tennessee, Virginia and Kentucky.

The building housing the Andersonville store was sold on Dec. 7 for $365,000, according to online state property records. The records show the owners of the property as Roy and Teresa Bruce of Andersonville.

Karnuth said they are the former owners of the Sunoco station in Andersonville.

A spokeswoman at the Pizza Plus corporate headquarters in Blountville said Friday that the new owners of the property plan to open their own restaurant at the Andersonville site in March, but she said she had no further information.

She did confirm that the company did not plan to open another location in the Andersonville/Norris area.

Pizza Plus has been known for its lunch buffet, along with a drive-up window for pickups, and local delivery.

And for anchovy lovers, it’s also known to be the only pizza restaurant in the general area that offers anchovies as a topping on its pizzas.
