Lady Dragons go 2-2 at Tampa Bay Christmas Classic

A trip to the Sunshine State last week netted the Clinton High School girls basketball team a pair of wins.

The Lady Dragons split four games in the Tampa Bay Christmas Classic in Tampa, Florida.

After dropping its first two games to Riverview, a top Class 7A team in Florida, and Tampa Catholic, Clinton bounced back with wins over Forest (Ocala, Florida) and Hillsborough (Florida).

The Lady Dragons (12-4) closed out tournament play with a 67-63 win over Hillsborough Saturday after defeating the Forest Lady Wildcats 96-70 on Friday.

On Thursday, the Lady Dragons fell to Tampa Catholic 80-59.

Clinton opened tournament play with a 72-69 loss to Riverview on Wednesday, Dec. 27, despite some stellar individual performances by the Lady Dragons.

Lanee Carmichael and Josie Moody both posted double-doubles.

Carmichael totaled 37 points, 10 rebounds, five assists and four steals. She also tied a single-game school record with seven 3-pointers in the contest.

Moody finished with 13 points, 10 rebounds and five assists.

Allie York had nine points, five rebounds and four assists. Bailey Burroughs added eight points and 10 rebounds.

Clinton returned to action Tuesday, hosting Oak Ridge. Results were not available at press time.

The Lady Dragons will play Scott at home on Jan. 9, and will face Gibbs on the road on Jan. 12.
