Wildcats play in Arby’s Classic


Oak Ridge’s Ray’Quan Watson had 13 points against Dorman (South Carolina) in the ‘Cats final game of the Arby’s Classic.
Playing in one of the state’s top basketball tournaments, the Oak Ridge High School boys went 1-2 last week.

The Wildcats lost two of their three games in the Arby’s Classic in Bristol. They finished their stay in Northeast Tennessee with a 65-55 overtime loss to Dorman (South Carolina) on Friday.

The game was tied 53-53 at the end of regulation before the Cavaliers outscored the Wildcats 10-2 in the extra frame.

Garrett Giles led Oak Ridge (12-5) with 19 points, and RayQuan Watson added 13 against the Cavaliers.

Oak Ridge posted its lone victory of the tournament when it downed Greeneville 60-54 on Thursday. Giles led the Wildcats’ offensive attack as he finished with 16 points. He was one of three ORHS players to post double figures in the scoring column, as Cooper Williams had 15 and Watson finished with 10.

Despite having four players score 10-plus points, the Wildcats lost their tournament opener to Harlan County (Kentucky) 67-57. Williams scored 16 points. Watson added 14, while Giles had 12. Brennen Scott finished with 11.

Oak Ridge played at Clinton Tuesday, but results were not available at press time.

The Wildcats host Cleveland Saturday at Wildcat Arena. Tipoff is slated for 7:30 p.m.
