Mavericks sweep Campbell County
After a two-week holiday break, Anderson County High School’s boys basketball team returned to the hardwood mostly victorious.
The Mavericks won two of their three games, but second-year Head Coach Jordan Jeffers said his team had a pair of lackluster performances to open the week.
Still, ACHS played one of its best games against Campbell County Friday night, as it defeated the Cougars for the second time this season, notching a 67-38 victory.
Jeffers said that he’s hoping the win against Campbell County will give the Mavericks some momentum as they have a couple of key District 4-AAA home games against Gibbs and Cumberland Gap.
The Mavericks (10-7) hosted the Eagles Tuesday, but results were not available at press time. They entertain Cumberland Gap Friday at 7:30 p.m.
“We played really well Friday, and hopefully, that’s the team that we are,” Jeffers said. “Beating Campbell County is good for us and that’s the way that you want to head back into district.
“We didn’t play well against Carter and you just have to give credit to Oliver Springs; they played well against us.
“We’d been off two weeks and we looked like it. We were lethargic and we looked out of shape in those two games. We just didn’t look good against Carter or Oliver Springs.”
Brandon Dake scored 19 points Friday night for the Mavericks, who opened play last week with a 63-51 loss to the Hornets on Tuesday, Jan. 2. Anderson County edged the Bobcats 61-54 on Thursday night.
