Wildcats start new year with wins

Oak Ridge High School’s boys basketball team picked up a pair of non-district victories in its return from the holiday break.

The Wildcats routed Cleveland 69-53 on Saturday at Wildcat Arena, after beating Clinton Jan. 2.

It was ORHS’ second win over the Blue Raiders this season. The Wildcats notched a 70-61 victory in an earlier meeting this season.

Ray’Quan Watson was Oak Ridge’s top scorer as he finished with 21 points. He was one of three Wildcats to post double figures in the scoring column in the latest game against Cleveland.

Garrett Giles, who was honored before the game for scoring his 1,000th career point, added 16 points, while Kaden Brightharp finished with 12.

The Wildcats (14-5) opened the week and the New Year with a 65-35 victory over Clinton at the Don W. Lockard Gymnasium on Tuesday, Jan 2.

Giles led the Oak Ridge offensive attack with 13 points. Brightharp and Brennen Scott had 11 points each. Shamar Greene scored nine, and Watson finished with eight.

Oak Ridge was to host Knoxville Halls in a District 3-4A game Tuesday, but results were unavailable at press time. The Wildcats entertain Karns Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Wildcat Arena.
