Oak Ridge High School’s girls basketball team returns to District 3-4A play this week, and the Lady Wildcats are looking to reverse their recent fortunes as they enter play in the midst of a three-game losing streak.

Oak Ridge (8-7 overall, 2-0 in the district) dropped a pair of non-league games last week. It fell 57-56 at Clinton on Tuesday, Jan. 2, and lost to Cleveland at home on Saturday night, coming up on the short end of a 50-36 decision against the Lady Raiders at Wildcat Arena.

Against Cleveland, Ayana Porter had 18 points. Euleesha Mitchell added nine, and Jenna Johnson finished with seven.

The Lady Wildcats opened the week with their first loss to one-time district rival and crosstown foe Clinton, losing to the Lady Dragons for the first time since Dec. 7, 1990. That was despite getting 33 points from Porter, who missed a pair of free throws that could’ve tied or won the game with 0.8 second remaining.

The Lady Wildcats hosted Knoxville Halls in a league tilt on Tuesday, but results were not available at press time.

Oak Ridge plays host to Karns Friday at 6 p.m. The Lady Beavers are coached by one-time ORHS assistant Lauren Trent.
