Mavericks wrestlers medal in Maryville
A trip to Blount County on Saturday was a successful one for the Anderson County High School wrestling
team.
The Mavericks hit the mats at the Maryville Invitational Saturday and returned home eight individual medals.
The Mavs had one athlete, Kyle Buckner, reach the finals in his weight class. He took second place in the 175-pound weight class.
In the 190-pound weight class, Anderson County had a pair of medalists as Ayden Derry took third and Eli Bratton was fourth.
Max Wolfley finished third in the 138-pound class.
Morgan Dye claimed third in the 215-pound weight class.
Two other Anderson County wrestlers came in fourth in their respective weight classes. Tripp Haire (113 pounds) and Josh Bingham (165) each claimed fourth place.
The Mavs also boasted a pair of fifth-place finishers in Evan Prewitt (150) and Emery Presson (144).
Mavericks Coach Matt Slone said he was pleased with his team’s showing in Maryville.
“Overall, I think we wrestled pretty well,” he said.
