Tennessee Sports Writers Association names All-State team
Six area high school players were honored recently when the Tennessee Sports Writers Association announced its Class 4A and 5A all-state teams on Tuesday, Jan. 16.
Anderson County, Oak Ridge and Clinton each was represented by a pair of all-state selections.
In Class 4A, Anderson County won its eighth consecutive region championship as it captured the Region 2-4A title, and it went undefeated in league play for the eighth straight season.
The Mavericks, who went 8-5 overall en route to reaching the Class 5A state quarterfinals, had two players earn Class 4A All-State honors. Quarterback Zae Hall and running back Nick Moog were named to the team.
In Class 5A, Oak Ridge won the Region 3 championship.
The Wildcats went 9-3 overall, while posting a perfect regular-season league record.
They were, however, eliminated by Clinton in the second round of postseason play.
ORHS saw seniors De’Jauvis Dozier (running back) and Brandon Heyward (wide receiver) named to the all-state team.
The Dragons, meanwhile, reached the Class 5A quarterfinals for the first time since the early 1990s.
They finished 6-7. but won five of their last six games.
Clinton was represented on the TSWA Class 5A All-State Team by quarterback Joshuah Keith and defensive back D’Mon Marable.
