A slow start spelled defeat for the Clinton High School’s girls basketball team and that loss brought the Lady Dragons’ 2023-24 season to an abrupt end.

The Lady Dragons saw their campaign come to a close in the first round of the Region 2-AAA Tournament as they fell to Fulton, 42-35, Friday night at the Don W. Lockard Gymnasium.

Offensively, Clinton had a virtual power outage in the first half against the Lady Falcons (13-22).

The Lady Dragons, who won the District 4-AAA regular season title and finished second in the league’s postseason tournament early last week, scored just 10 points in the first half and managed to put up just four points in the second quarter couldn’t recover from their slow start.

Fulton’s Sammy Taylor outscored the entire Clinton team in the opening frame as she tallied eight of her game-high 14 points in the period.

Fulton, which led Clinton (which finishes the season with a 21-8 overall record), 29-10, at halftime, had three players post double figures in the scoring column as Maiya Moore added 13 points and Zion Thompson finished with 10.

Sophomore Josie Moody led the Lady Dragons with 10 points in their season finale. Jailie Rodd and Addi Gamble had eight points each.
