Homeschool talents to be showcased at Arts Craft Center art show on Thursday

An art club created for home-schooled kids plans to have a show featuring artwork of its members from 5 to 6:40 p.m. tomorrow (Thursday, March 21) at the Appalachian Arts Craft Center in Norris.

The artwork on display will include woodworking and pottery projects, according to Hannah Zechman, an instructor at the center.

Exhibits in the show were made by students ages 8-15 who participated in the Homeschool Art Club program during the past six weeks, she said.

The exhibition will include an open house hosted by the in-studio pottery department.

“This is a great chance to learn more about pottery-making and the variety of classes offered at the Appalachian Arts Craft Center,” Zechman said, adding that “All are invited to come support our youth students and their recent creative endeavors.”

Light refreshments will be served.

The Appalachian Arts Craft Center is at 2716 Andersonville Highway, across from the Museum of Appalachia.

It is a nonprofit organization whose stated mission is “promoting creativity.”

“We offer education and mentoring in arts and crafts, studios to explore and develop skills, and a retail market for qualified artists,” the center says on its website.

“Our vision is to be a center of excellence for artistic expression serving the creative needs of the Appalachian community.”

Regular center hours are 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 1-5 p.m. on Sunday.
