Dragons, Mavericks face off in district matchup
Crosstown rivals Clinton and Anderson County renewed acquaintances on the baseball diamond Monday night in the first of a two-game District 4-AAA series at Jaycee Park.
And when the dust had settled, the Dragons outlasted the Mavericks, 6-4, in the district opener for both schools.
Anderson County (4-5 overall, 0-1 in the district jumped out to a 4-2 lead in the top of the fourth inning only to see Clinton (4-4, 1-0) score four unanswered runs, including two in the fourth and two in the sixth.
Harrison Shelton, the Dragons’ starting pitcher, was 1-for-2 at the plate as he had a single, a sacrifice fly and three RBIs. Dallas Beets had two hits and scored two runs, while Garrett Davis went 1-for-3 and an RBI, and Alex Duggins doubled and scored.
Shelton pitched six innings. He surrendered four runs (two earned), seven hits and five walks, before giving way to Isaiah Slaven, who pitched a scoreless seventh. He surrendered one hit and had one strikeout.
For Anderson County, Aydin Bond had three hits and drove in a run, while Ty Strickland had two hits, an RBI and a run scored. Morgan Clark and Reece Wilkerson each singled and scored, while Easton Beaty singled, scored and drove in a run.
On the mound, Alex Bond pitched a complete game, going six innings. He yielded six runs (five earned), six hits and five walks. He struck out seven.
