Mavericks sweep Hornets in early week games
Playing its first games in East Tennessee, Anderson County High School’s baseball team swept Carter in a home-and-home non-league series early last week.
The Mavericks, who opened the 2024 campaign in Florida over Spring Break, defeated the Hornets, 8-2, at home on Tuesday, March 19, and edged Carter, 3-2, in Strawberry Plains the following day.
On Friday, the Mavericks lost to Lenoir City, 9-8, in nine innings despite getting a 4-for-5 performance at the plate from Luke Lankford, who drove in a run and scored another.
Reece Wilkerson also went 2-for-3 and scored two runs, while Morgan Clark went 2-for-6 and recorded two RBIs.
On Saturday, the Mavericks got back on track and into the win column with an 8-3 win over Volunteer.
Pitcher Daniel Unthank picked up the win on the mound as he finished with nine strikeouts.
He also singled and drove in a run for ACHS against the Falcons.
Ty Wilson had two hits, including a double, and two RBIs, while Wilkerson doubled and scored. He also knocked in a run. Easton Beaty had two hits, including a double.
