Oak Ridge sweeps Karns, falls to Powell

After sweeping Karns in its first District 3-4A series early last week, the Oak Ridge High School baseball team has dropped two of its last three games.

The Wildcats (5-4-1 overall, 2-1 in the district) came up on the short end of a 5-4 decision against Powell at home Monday night.

Cy Stephen went 1-for-3 with a triple and an RBI against the Panthers, while Caden Black was 1-for-3 with a double and a run scored.

The loss to the Panthers Monday was the Wildcats’ second consecutive loss. Oak Ridge lost to Maryville, 9-3, at home Friday night.

The Rebels, who led 1-0 in the fourth, scored eight runs in the top of the fifth to all but put the game away.

But the Wildcats would counter with three runs in the bottom of the sixth. Oak Ridge managed just three hits against Maryville as Black, Kam Welch and Peyton Witter all singled and stole bases.

ORHS had better fortunes on the road at Bearden as it left Phil Garner Ballpark with a 12-7 victory over the host Bulldogs.

Warren East hit a home run and stole a base, while Mikee Teasley went 3-for-3 with two runs and two doubles. Witter was 2-for-5 with three RBIs, two doubles and a run scored.
