Young Dragons face early season adversity

As the 2024 high school boys soccer season moves forward, Clinton continues to experience growing pains.

The Dragons (0-2-1) played one match last week and dropped a 7-0 decision to Kingston Thursday night.

Clinton coach Gene Chunn said that the Yellow Jackets provided some stiff competition for the Dragons.

“They were really good and they had a lot of speed,” Chunn said. “When you only have four returning starters back and eight returning players, you just have to learn.

“We have 27 players on the roster and the rest of the team is freshmen and sophomores. We saw the video on Friday and we’ll just have to learn from it.”

Chunn can find solace in the fact that the Dragons got off to a slow start last season but they went on to win the district tournament.

“This is just the way that it’s going to be for us during the first few weeks of the season,” he said. “It was just like this last year.”
