’Cats defeat Rebels, drop district game
Oak Ridge High School’s soccer team honored its seniors Friday night and celebrated with a 2-1 comeback victory over Maryville.
The Rebels (5-5) scored first in the match when senior Seth Meade found the back of the net in the first half.
The Wildcats pulled even just before halftime when Eli Lynch tallied the equalizer with 16.5 seconds remaining when he buried the ball into the back of the net from 40 yards out.
He would also score the eventual game-winning goal in the second half.
That victory came two days after Oak Ridge and Knoxville Halls tangled in a thrilling District 3-AAA match at ORHS.
That game’s outcome couldn’t be decided in 100 minutes of play, including 80 minutes of regulation and 20 minutes of overtime.
The game was deadlocked 0-0 heading into a penalty kicks shootout before the Red Devils, who made a run to the Class AA state tournament in Murfreesboro last season, prevailed 5-4.
