Norris Senators still perfect on season

The Norris Middle School baseball team kept its perfect record intact with a pair of victories on the diamond late last week.

The Senators defeated Norwood Middle School 24-2 on Thursday on the road in a game that was called after two innings due to the run rule.

Norris scored four runs in the first inning before plating 20 in the second. The Senators had 10 hits and took advantage of seven Norwood errors.

Norris pitchers Aiden Walker and Aiden Wilson pitched a combined no-hitter as Norwood managed to score two unearned runs.

Walker threw one inning and yielded two unearned runs and two walks. He struck out the side in his one inning pitched.

Williams also struck out the side in his inning on the mound. He walked three and struck out three.

Walker had a big night at the plate as he went 2-for-2 with three runs scored and two RBIs. Wilson was also 2-for-2. He drove in four runs and scored two more. Reese Young doubled, scored three runs and knocked in two.

Jack Wilson doubled, drove in a run and scored another. Preston Williams was 1-for-2 with three runs and two RBIs.

On Friday, the Senators (14-0) toppled Chapmanville 9-3.

Young started on the mound and pitched 5.1 innings. He surrendered three runs (one earned), two hits and two walks. He struck out 12 before being relieved by Jack Wilson.

Wilson went 0.2 innings and gave up one hit and struck out one.

At the plate, Young tripled, scored twice and drove in a run. Levi Skeen was 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI. Walker went 2-for-4 with one run and an RBI, while Conner Dabney went 1-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.



Lady Senators

After suffering its first loss of the season on Monday, April 1, Norris Middle School’s softball team closed out the week with a pair of lopsided victories.

The Lady Senators (7-1) routed Norwood Middle 17-0 Friday night.

Pitcher Kinza Plummer hurled a no-hitter against the Lady Jaguars as she threw a three-inning complete game. She walked two hitters and struck out six.

At the plate, Norris pounded out five extra-base hits. Jaycee Hunley and Bella Brummett each hit home runs in the contest. Ashton Thurman had two hits, including a triple. She also scored twice and drove in a pair of runs. Meghan Watkin had two hits, including a double, and scored a run. Alice Ogan went 3-for-3 with a double, three runs and two RBIs.

On Thursday, Norris defeated Fort Loudoun 13-3.

Brummett, Thurman and Watkin each tripled in the game and each scored two runs against Fort Loudoun. Watkin came up with four RBIs. Thurman drove in two and Brummett had one RBI.

Pitcher Shyla Tindell picked up the win in the circle. She threw four innings. She gave up four hits, four runs (three earned) and one walk. She finished the game with six strikeouts.

Norris suffered its first loss of the 2024 campaign as it lost to Clinton 6-1 on Monday, April 1.

The Lady Senators had five hits against the Lady Hawks.

Brummett and Cindle Justice each doubled in the contest.
