Laster, LaRue have record-setting week

Anderson County High School’s track and field programs sent athletes to two top meets last week.

The Mavericks and Lady Mavericks competed in the University of Tennessee’s Volunteer Track Classic at Tom Black Track over the weekend.

In the girls’ two-mile run, Kaitlyn Fisher came in 19th as she posted a time of 12 minutes, 34.28 seconds.

For the ACHS boys, Vance Laster had top times in two events as he finished 10th in the one-mile run (4:33.70), and finished fourth in the 2,000-meter steeplechase. He completed that race in 6:32.96, a school record.

Luke Dark placed sixth in the shot put competition as he recorded a mark of 52-0.25. Joseph Hall was ninth in long jump (19-11.5) and Ace Dunegan had a leap of 5-4 and he came in 13th in the high jump.

ACHS was also in the Rick Cathey Shootout at Karns High School on Thursday night,

The Lady Mavs had a pair of runners tie for 13th in the 400-meter dash as Carla Hanna and Lily Trent crossed the finish line in 1:10.79 in separate heats.

Trent and Sydney Day both posted top marks in the 800-meter run. Trent came in ninth (2:47.10) and Day was 11th (2:50.90).

The Lady Mavericks had four athletes place inside the top 20 in the 1,600-meter run.

Day took third (6:36.57). Morgan Lindsay was 11th (7:04.50). Anna Gross took 16th (7:41.58). And Emma Johnson was 18th (7:59.53).

In the girls’ shot put, Johnson was 21st (17-9.5) and Gross was 24th (13-2.75).

In the boys’ 200-meter dash, Waylon LaRue broke the school record as he crossed the finish line in 10.91 seconds. Bryce Underwood took third in the event (11.34). LaRue also finished second in the 200 (22.92) and Underwood was eighth (23.65).

In the 800-meter run, Toby Day was 15th (2:28.19).

Anderson County had two distance specialists post top-20 marks in the 1,600-meter run as Zander Vo took 10th and Tanner Warman was 20th.

Caleb Dill finished eighth in the discus (96-5.5) and placed 18th in the shot put (35-7.5).
