Anderson County continued its successful season on the baseball diamond last week. The Mavericks closed out the regular-season portion of their home schedule with a 6-5 victory over Victory Christian Friday night as the baseball program honored its seniors.

Aydin Bond went 1-for-3. He had a triple, two runs and two RBIs. Trey Rowe, Gavin Hill, Lane Fletcher and Jon Johnson each came up with two hits Rowe drove in one run and scored another. He also had a triple.

Luke Lankford had a double and an RBI. Johnson scored a run and Morgan Clark doubled, drove in one run and scored another.

“That was a big win for us. All of our seniors got to play,” Anderson County coach Josh Boynton said.

That win came after the Mavericks dropped an 11-3 decision to The King’s Academy in Seymour.

“We scored three runs in the first inning and then the wheels came off,” Boynton said. “We had a lot of errors and then we had innings where we gave up four runs and four runs after we were tied, 3-3. It just wasn’t our day.”

Clark and Johnson each singled and scored against the Lions. Johnson recorded a stolen base. Wilson had a single and an RBI.

The Mavericks (22-10 overall, 7-3 in District 4-AAA) opened the week by sweeping Scott in their final district series of the year. Anderson County and the Highlanders played a double header on Monday, April 22, with the Mavs taking Game 1, 15-0, and winning the nightcap, 11-0.

In the first game, Lankford threw a one-hitter. He pitched five innings and struck out 13 Scott hitters. He also went 3-for-4, with a double, five RBIs and a run scored against the Highlanders. Clark, Trent Strickland and Bond all doubled.

In the second game, Clark threw a no-hitter as the Highlanders managed just one runner. He hit a batter and had nine strikeouts.

Offensively, Clark drove in a run, scored another and stole five bases. Trent Strickland was 3-for-3. He scored two runs, stole three bases and drove in a run. He reached base four times as he also drew a walk.
