Oak Ridge High School’s baseball team played five games in five days last week. The Wildcats lost four of those five contests, but were competitive.

They dropped a 3-1 decision to Powell on Monday, April 22, at Danny T. Maples Field in Northwest Knox County. That make-up game concluded district play for the Wildcats and the Panthers’ victory assured them the No. 2 seed, a host site and a first-round bye in the District 3-4A Tournament, which opens with first-round games. Oak Ridge will host Campbell County and Knoxville Halls will host Karns.

The preliminary rounds will conclude at Powell and Knox Central will host preliminary games at Tommy Schumpert Park, which will also host the semifinals and the finals next week.

On Tuesday, April 23, the Wildcats lost to Hardin Valley Academy, 4-2, on the road before falling in both games of a two-game home-and-home series against East Hamilton Wednesday and Thursday.

East Hamilton won its home game, 7-6, on Wednesday before coming to Bobby Hopkins Field and claiming a 4-3 victory on Thursday.

Despite their struggles, the Wildcats closed the week on a high note as they toppled Coalfield, 12-6, on Friday.

Mikee Teasley went 2-for-3 with a home run, a double three runs scored and three RBIs against the Yellow Jackets, while Richie Ferreira was 2-for-4. He had two doubles, two RBIs and a run scored.

Kam Welch had two doubles, three runs and three RBIs, while Parker Free had two hits and drove in a pair. Warren East had two hits and scored a run.

Khyren Welch singled, knocked in a run and scored, while Peyton Witter came up with a single, an RBI and a run scored.
