District baseball tourney underway
The District 4-AAA Tournament got underway on Tuesday but results were not available at press time.
Clinton had an opening round against Scott on Tuesday at Anderson County High. The third-seeded Dragons and the sixth-seeded Highlanders battled to play the No. 2 seeded Mavericks in Tuesday’s late game.
Anderson County and Gibbs, the No. 1 seed, co-hosted games Tuesday and Wednesday with the Eagles and Mavericks earning opening-round byes.
In the other first-round game at Corryton, Union County and Cumberland Gap played for the right to play Gibbs at Steve Hunley Field.
Loser’s bracket games will be contested tonight at 6 p.m. at both Anderson County and Gibbs.
The tournament shifts exclusively at Gibbs on Thursday and Friday with an if-necessary game would be contested Saturday.
Meanwhile, Oak Ridge is set to host Campbell County tonight. Game time was not set at press time.
The tournament continues at Powell and at Tommy Schumpert Park before moving exclusively to Schumbert Park during the semifinals and finals.
Knox Central plays its home games at Tommy Schumpert Park and is the top seed in the tournament.
In Tuesday’s other first round game at No. 4 Knoxville Halls will play host to Karns.
