Dragons’ season concludes in district tourney

Clinton High School saw its 2024 baseball season come to an end Friday afternoon.

The Dragons dropped their final game of the season as they lost to Union County 11-1 in the loser’s bracket final of the District 4-AAA tournament at Gibbs High School.

Garrett Lee went 2-for-3 and came up with a double for Clinton, which finished its season with a 15-21 record. Harrison Shelton was 1-for-4. He scored the Dragons’ lone run of the contest.

Clinton also lost to the host and top-seeded Eagles, 9-2, in a winner’s bracket game at Steve Hunley Field in Corryton.

Isaiah Slaven came up with two hits, including a double, and recorded a double for Clinton in its first postseason loss of the 2024 campaign.

The third-seeded Dragons opened tournament play with a pair of wins at Anderson County on Tuesday, April 30.

Clinton racked up 20 runs in its tournament opener as it routed Scott 20-9. The Dragons got off to a hot start as they scored 10 runs in the bottom of the first inning. They also closed the game with a flourish as they plated seven runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Shelton went 4-for-5 with three RBIs, three runs and two stolen bases, while Garrett Davis doubled and drove in two runs. He also scored against the Highlanders.

Lee went 1-for-4, with a double, two runs and an RBI. Jackson Webb also had four hits, three RBIs, two runs and a stolen base. Aiden Golden was 3-for-3. He had a run, an RBI and a stolen base. Will Brooks had three hits and three RBIs; he doubled and scored.

In their second game of the night, the Dragons outlasted the second-seeded and host Mavericks 3-1. Davis tripled and scored. Shelton hit a home run, while Lee doubled and drove in two runs.
