Wildcats sending four to state championship meet in Murfreesboro

Oak Ridge High School had a successful day at Large Schools State Sectional Track and Field Championships Saturday at Knoxville’s Hardin Valley Academy.

The Wildcats and Lady Wildcats combined to have four individuals and one relay team qualify for next week’s state championships at the Spring Fling in Murfreesboro.

Lady Wildcats sprinter Seven Pettus punched her ticket to the Midstate and will compete in three events at Middle Tennessee State University.

She posted a second-place finish in both the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes at HVA. She also took third place in the 400-meter dash. She completed the 100 in 12.17 seconds.

Pettus set a school record in the 200 as she crossed the finish line in 24.80. She completed that race, clocking a time of 58.79.

In the girls shot put competition, Sophia Hughes finished fourth at the sectionals as she posted an effort of 33 feet, 1.5 inches.

In the girls’ 800-meter run, Dylan Job finished fourth Saturday as she posted a time of 2:18.26.

In the boys’ 800-meter run, Mason Greenhalgh came in second Saturday (1:54.72). Oak Ridge’s top 4x400-meter relay team also qualified for state on Saturday.
