Memorial Day ceremony to be held at courthouse on Monday
A Memorial Day ceremony will be held in front of the Anderson County Courthouse at 10 a.m. on Monday, May 27.
The keynote speaker will be Brigadier Gen. Steven Turner.
As assistant adjutant general, Turner is responsible for the daily management of the Tennessee Army National Guard.
The general is a 34-year military veteran and a University of Tennessee graduate. He has trained and served in numerous countries and deployed twice to Iraq.
Anderson County Mayor Terry Frank and Tennessee State Rep. John Ragan will also deliver remarks.
Colors will be presented by the Navy ROTC at Oak Ridge High School. The invocation will be given by Don Moore, chaplain of Anderson County American Legion Post 172.
Anderson County Veteran Service Officer Scott Nation along with Turner, Frank and Ragan, will place wreaths on the monuments in front of the courthouse.
The Volunteer State Honor Guard will fire a 21-gun salute and Nation will give the closing remarks.
Also in observance of Memorial Day there will be a concert at 7 p.m. Monday in Bissell Park in Oak Ridge by the Oak Ridge Community Band.
