Norris’ Lt. Col. William Grieve inducted into U.S. Army officer school Hall of Fame
The OCS Hall of Fame was established in 1958 to honor those graduates who had distinguished themselves through “valorous combat leadership and superior meritorious service,” according to a news release.
“Honorees must be nominated and have accomplished one of the following qualifying criteria to be selected for induction: superior valorous combat leadership, superior meritorious service, distinguished public service, superior public service and lifelong service,” it said.
Inductees’ photos are displayed in the National Infantry Museum and Soldier Center Hall of Honor in Columbus.
Grieve was commissioned as an officer upon graduation from infantry OCS at Fort Benning, Georgia, in 1967.
His military journey began as a training officer at Fort Lewis, Washington.
Notable assignments included his role as a Fourth Infantry combat platoon leader in Vietnam, as well as a Second Army public affairs officer at Fort Gillem, Georgia, during Operation Desert Storm.
Grieve remains active in various military organizations including the Reserve Organization of America, Military Order of World Wars, East Tennessee Military Affairs Council, Vietnam Veterans Association, Interallied Confederation of Reserve Officers and Pan American Union of Armed Forces Reserve Officers.
He also serves on the Norris City Council and is a member of LaFollette Methodist Church, and has been involved in numerous volunteer organizations.
Grieve worked as an agriculture teacher at Campbell County High School until his retirement.
