River Boys split wins at home with Bulls

The River Boys 18U baseball team played three games last week and posted a record of 1-2,

On Thursday, the River Boys split a doubleheader against their crosstown rival, Coal Creek, at Jaycee Park. They won the first game 1-0, and dropped the second contest 3-1.

In Thursday night’s opener, the River Boys pitched a no-hitter, as Chase Jaslove, Will Brooks, Aden Golden and Jackson Barrett combined in a pitchers’ duel.

Jaslove pitched one inning, issuing three walks and notching three strikeouts. Brooks threw two innings and finished with three strikeouts. Golden and Barrett also each hurled an inning. Barrett finished with two strikeouts.

The River Boys’ quartet of pitchers outdueled Coal Creek’s Easton Beaty, who went four innings in a complete game. He surrendered one unearned run, two hits and two walks. He finished with seven strikeouts.

The River Boys scored the lone run of the contest in the bottom of the second inning as Golden came up with an RBI double that drove in Alex Duggins. Brooks also had a hit in the game for the River Boys.

Coal Creek bounced back to take the second game 3-1.

In that contest, the Bulls took advantage of three errors by the River Boys.

Evan Carmichael went 1-for-2 and had an RBI.

Jaxon Young singled and scored a run.

Gideon Follett pitched three innings for the River Boys.

He gave up three runs and five hits. He had five strikeouts.

Jayden Cuevas pitched one inning. He allowed one hit and two walks, while striking out two.

Landry Jennings walked two and struck out one in one inning pitched.

The River Boys opened the week with a 10-3 loss at Beaver Creek on Monday, June 17.

After a break, the River Boys will return to action on July 8 when they travel to Corryton to play the Graveston Freebirds.
