River Boys closeout regular season Postseason play begins Friday at Christenberry Elementary
The River Boys 18U baseball team closed out its 2024 regular season with a road doubleheader Monday night.
Playing on the diamond for the first time in more than two weeks, the River Boys tied the first game and lost the nightcap to the Graveston Freebirds at Steve Hunley Field in Corryton.
Graveston and the River Boys played to a 1-1 tie in the opening game.
The Freebirds took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning when Kade Cameron scored on a wild pitch.
The Firebirds (7-4-1) held their advantage until the top of the fourth frame when Aden Golden doubled and later scored the tying run.
Golden went 1-for-3 with a run scored, while William Easterday went 2-for-2 with a double. Will Brooks was 1-for-2 with a stolen base.
Dallas Beets started on the mound for the River Boys. He threw three innings and gave up one unearned run, one hit and a walk. He finished with six strikeouts.
Brooks and Easterday each pitched one inning of scoreless relief.
Brooks walked two and struck out three, while Easterday retired the Freebirds in order in his inning on the mound.
In Game 2, Graveston scored the lone run of the contest in the bottom of the first inning. The Freebirds had just one hit in the game.
The River Boys had two hits in the game and both went for extra bases. Reed White had a double and Caleb Holt came up with a triple.
The River Boys return to action Friday in the ETBD postseason tournament at North Knoxville’s Christenberry Elementary School.
They finished the regular season with a 6-12-1 record.
