A recent Anderson County High School graduate has been recognized by the National Federation of State High School Football Associations.

Nick Moog, a running back for the Mavericks, won the NFHS Student-Athlete Award of Excellence for his work and dedication on and off the football field.

Moog, a key contributor on the Mavericks’ 2022 TSSAA Class 4A state championship team, recently signed a national letter of intent to continue his academic pursuits and football career at the University of the Cumberlands in Williamsburg, Kentucky.

He was part of Anderson County’s Read Option Friday, a program begun by his brother, Ryan, another former ACHS football player, in 2015.

Read Option Friday is a program in which Anderson County football players dedicated their Friday lunch period to the students of Clinch River Community School. The players read to the Clinch River students in an effort to foster literacy.

Nick, a fixture in the ACHS football program, played middle school football in the county and was once a ball boy during high school football games.
